A great 9 month contract role for an experienced Defined Benefit Pensions Administrator, you will be performing and reviewing complex pension calculations within a team environment, ensuring accuracy and adherence to scheme rules. The role supports client relationship management through project budgeting and process improvement, while also coaching junior team members. Key responsibilities include communicating with clients and members on complex queries, handling data entry and scheme events. Strong knowledge of UK pensions legislation, excellent analytical skills, and experience liaising with clients and trustees are essential. A professional qualification such as PMI is desirable.
Technical Experience & Knowledge:
• Complex Pension Calculations:
Proven experience in performing and peer-reviewing complex DB pension scheme calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
• Scheme Knowledge & Rules Interpretation:
Thorough understanding of a range of occupational pension scheme types and structures, including Final Salary, CARE, and hybrid schemes. Ability to interpret and apply scheme rules, regulatory guidelines, and benefit specifications in day-to-day work.
• UK Pensions Legislation:
In-depth knowledge of relevant UK pensions legislation (e.g., Pensions Act 1995, Pensions Act 2004, GMP equalisation, auto-enrolment, transfer values, and retirement options). Ability to stay updated on regulatory changes and understand their operational implications.
• Client & Trustee Interaction:
Experience in working directly with clients, trustees, and stakeholders—supporting technical queries, presenting calculation approaches, and providing project updates or issue resolution.
• Process Knowledge:
Familiarity with member life events (e.g., retirements, transfers, deaths, divorce, leavers, trivial commutations) and the processes supporting each. Understanding of both automated and manual pension administration systems.

• Communication:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to draft clear and professional letters, emails, and reports. Comfortable liaising with clients and scheme members to explain complex pension calculations and procedures.
• Analytical Thinking:
Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail. Capable of troubleshooting calculation issues, identifying errors, and proposing practical solutions.
• Quality Assurance & Checking:
Demonstrated ability to peer-review colleagues’ work, provide constructive feedback, and uphold high-quality standards.
• Process Improvement:
Skilled in identifying inefficiencies or risks in current processes and working collaboratively to implement improvements and efficiencies.
• Project & Budget Awareness:
Experience in monitoring project deliverables against budget and timescales. Able to flag issues proactively and contribute to ensuring client projects stay on track financially and operationally.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Professional Certification:
Holding or working toward a relevant pensions qualification (e.g. Pensions Management Institute [PMI] or equivalent) is highly desirable.
• Technology Literacy:
Proficiency with pensions administration systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) is preferred. Experience using workflow and task management tools is a plus.
There is a hybrid working role with a couple of days per week in the Liverpool office preferred.
