Chair of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Advisory Board
Location: The quarterly Board meetings will be held in London, with occasional travel to other regions on Board business
Time Requirements: 16.5 days per year including all quarterly meetings of the full Board. The Chair must also be available to be contacted outside of formal meeting times and at short notice to attend to pressing business
Remuneration: £437 per day (plus reasonable expenses)
The Home Secretary is seeking to appoint a Chair to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme Advisory Board.
The main purpose of the Board is to advise the Secretary of State on the desirability of making changes to the Scheme. It also advises and assists the 45 Fire and Rescue services in England and their local pension boards. The Chair is tasked with effectively leading a diverse Board that is representative of both scheme employers and employees, and ensuring that the Board operates efficiently and transparently.
The Secretary of State is seeking to appoint a Chair who possesses the leadership skills, managerial experience, and political awareness necessary to effectively guide a diverse Board composed of various interested parties from each sector. The Board will strive to take all decisions by consensus, so the diplomatic and coalition-building skills of the Chair will be central to its effective operation.
The role is offered as a four-year fixed term appointment initially.
