Maintain high standard of service to our clients

  • Follow the correct do-check-review procedure for each task and stamp/sign off to show confidence in work
  • Clearly lay out calculations with all figures in reports and emails supportable and evidenced on file
  • Check work of junior trainees and ask questions/highlight to any further checker where do not feel confident to fully sign-off the work
  • Ensure use of standard models and templates where available
  • Answer phone promptly and politely. Phone notes passed on where appropriate
  • Draft emails, letters and reports with a professional tone, with the target audience in mind and with reference to previous communications if appropriate
  • Acknowledge queries by email and pass on or answer promptly
  • Ensure work complies with the Technical Actuarial Standards and DPB Handbook where appropriate
  • Ensure files and directories are kept orderly and up-to-date.  File should be named sensibly with version control

Ensure that client work is carried out within budget and agreed timescales

  • Communicate with the team to understand timescales, budgets and priorities
  • Understand budgets applicable to each project and notify senior investment consultants where budgets are likely to be exceeded
  • Minimise time spent by more senior staff by ensuring work is easy to follow.  Clearly set out any checks that have been performed and any issues and assumptions that have required judgement.  Address any issues before senior staff review where possible
  • Manage own workflow ensuring that work is carried out within agreed timescales.  Notify team members of any conflicts in priorities or problems meeting deadlines
  • Support the client managers in providing billing information where required
  • Keep timesheet up to date and accurate.  Description should be provided in an appropriate level of detail
  • Develop Excel and other IT skills to ensure work is done efficiently making full use of tools (e.g. Excel functions, Mantle) available
  • Help develop standard templates and processes to routine investment consulting work, such as quarterly reports, SIPs, manager advice and transitions.

Develop into a client-facing consultant

  • Identify gaps in technical knowledge and formulate plan to gain experience in key areas
  • Attend manager research meeting to understand different investment approaches and asset classes in greater detail
  • Read internal emails, newsletter and other news publications to keep up to date with current issues
  • Make good progress in actuarial or FCA exams
  • Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions where required and appropriate 
  • Build relationships with specific clients where appropriate
  • Manage all investment work on specific clients as agreed ensuring deadlines are agreed and met

Support the junior investment analysts in their development

  • Provide other team members with training when requested, and when required 
  • Explain any changes that are made to investment analysts’ work to ensure they learn from mistakes 
  • Provide regular feedback to investment analysts throughout the year, including requesting that files are updated and review procedures are followed
  • Support investment analysts in managing their workload and communicating to other team members
  • Provide formal training sessions for the investment analysts where appropriate

Contribute appropriately to the investment team

  • Contribute to newsletter articles/press releases/thought pieces
  • Contribute to the manager research effort, arrange and attend meetings, draft notes from meetings and offer views on the managers’ offerings.
  • Notify managers where not enough work so that work can be reallocated as appropriate
  • Provide support to any internal projects as agreed within team
  • Provide constructive feedback to team members when requested, and when required (including positive feedback)
  • Build relationships with other teams to understand their role
  • Ensure Outlook calendar is up to date with study, holiday and time out of office/unavailable 
  • Update study, banked days and holiday plans on central spreadsheet
