The Aviva Master Trust is looking to appoint a Trustee to join its fully independent (non-affiliated) Trustee Board. The successful candidate will join the existing Trustee Directors of the growing and well governed Aviva Master Trust that has been operating for over ten years. We are seeking an individual to Chair the Member Experience and Communications Committee (MECC) who has DC investment experience.  

We are looking for someone with a history of operating at a senior level and previous or current experience as a Trustee would be an advantage.
Applicants must be familiar with the Pensions Regulator’s expectations of Trustees generally and be conversant with legislation surrounding the operation of an authorised Master Trust and the role and accountabilities of a Trustee Board.

Accountabilities
1. To attain and maintain relevant trustee knowledge and understanding. Completion of the Pensions Regulator’s Trustee Toolkit will be mandatory prior to starting the role.
2. To obtain a detailed knowledge and understanding of the Aviva Master Trust and the role of Aviva both as Funder and as administrator to the scheme.
3. To act as an exemplar of the Board, demonstrating the standards of behaviour expected and championing effective governance in the pursuit of good member outcomes. 
4. To validate, critique and challenge input to the Trustee Board, ensuring it is fit for purpose.
5. To attain and maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the pension industry, key developments and the changing needs of UK pension savers.
6. To attend a minimum of four full day face to face trustee board meetings, a strategy day, a site visit day, four to eight Committee meetings, six calls with the Strategist per annum, and other meetings as needed, with appropriate preparation, and to be available to review and discuss issues requiring Trustee decisions between meetings.

Skills & Experience
1. Previous or current experience as a Pension Trustee and/or working with TPR is desirable.
2. Demonstrable experience of acting in a governance or oversight role within the Defined Contributions (DC) pensions market.
3. Strong understanding of all aspects of MT operation, specifically administration, proposition/platform developments, member communications and risk management. 
4. A good understanding of member communication and engagement alongside a genuine member focus will be required. 
5. Experience of DC investments.
6. A thorough and current understanding of the regulatory environment and standards of reporting.
7. Ability to develop and maintain strong working business relationships with internal and external stakeholders up to Board level.
8. Demonstrable positive communication and interpersonal skills.

Remuneration: To be commensurate with experience
