The BBC Pension Scheme is a final salary and career average defined benefit scheme which closed to new members in 2010. It has around 10,000 active, 29,000 deferred members and 24,000 pensioners and dependants.
The Scheme is governed by a corporate trustee company, the BBC Pension Trust Ltd. The Board of Directors holds the assets and operates the Scheme in accordance with the Trust Deed and Rules. It is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Scheme and for the ongoing oversight of all actions taken in its name. From January 2018, the Board will comprise three Independent Trustees, four member-nominated Trustees and four employer-nominated Trustees.
