You will be an experienced Occupational Pensions Manager seeking a company who transform, and who we believe will transform your life for the better in this exciting and rewarding role. Your main purpose will be to lead and control the day-to-day administration and to ensure the effective operational management of all aspects of the UK Pension Scheme, which has circa 7,000 members.  You will carry responsibility for ensuring high governance standards for the Scheme as Secretary to the Trustees and the Investment Committee whilst also advising on the formulation of strategic pension's policy for the Company.

Acting as Secretary to the Trustees, you will attend Trustees’ meetings as Secretary with a focus on appropriate governance standards, including the production of meeting packs and minutes of all meetings and the review and maintenance of the Scheme’s risk register. Acting as a member of the Investment Committee you will be the co-ordinator of all investment-related activities in connection with the Scheme, including the production of minutes of all meetings and update of the statutory Statement of Investment Principles, as required.

You will formulate and implement pension's strategy and policy, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and organisational objectives, advising senior Company personnel and the Trustees of the Pension Scheme on all pension-related topics. You will be the lead on all cyclical events of the defined benefit sections, in accordance with agreed timetables, including the preparation of data for the triennial actuarial valuation and liaison with the Trustees and the Scheme Actuary to complete the process within statutory deadlines. You will also facilitate and manage the annual audit of the Pension Scheme accounts.

Using available in-house resources (2 pension administrators, who you will manage, including appraisal, development and motivation) for the closed defined benefit sections and liaising with the third party administrator to support the administration of the defined contribution section, you will ensure that all benefits are paid in accordance with the scheme rules and with regard to all statutory obligations and the agreed performance levels and services. 

Alongside the aforementioned you will oversee, manage and check all pensioner payroll activities on a monthly basis and in respect of annual pension increase exercises, manage the day-to-day cash-flow expectations of the Scheme, communicate with Scheme members, including communication of pension issues in a regular newsletter, be the prime point of contact for the Pensions Regulator, Trustees, Company and the Scheme’s advisers, including actuarial, legal and investment advisers, and manage and implement pension-related projects and assignments as required by the Company or the Trustees.

The current post-holder has been in this role for a decade and a half, and this is a rare pensions role unlikely to come up again for many more years to come.
