About the pension administration services we offer

The Pension Administration Business was established in 1993.  Our core business is the provision of services to trustees of UK occupational pension schemes DB, DC, CARE, cash balance – and we will do this as a stand-alone “admin-only” appointment or in conjunction with services provided by other Barnett Waddingham Practice Areas.  The services are provided from all of our UK offices and include:

  • Benefit administration
  • Pensioner payroll
  • Administration consulting services
  • Scheme governance and trustee secretarial
  • Bespoke one off projects
  • Cash handling and preparing draft accounts
  • PPF assessment administration services
  • Data audits and data cleansing
  • Specialist roles (secondments, expert witness)
  • Support for trustees and in-house personnel

About the role

The purpose of this role is to ensure up-to-date regulatory and market developments are identified, understood and passed on to the pension administration practice and wider business where there may be other implications of such changes.  Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Keep up to date with regulatory and market developments within pension administration
  • Identify regulatory and market developments that will affect pension administration and make sure business stakeholders are made aware of the potential wider implications
  • Assist in developing and maintaining processes to ensure that regulatory analysis and change are implemented including liaison with the pension systems teams
  • Provide support to keep technical training material up to date as required and provide guidance and training on technical queries as required
  • Consultancy, project based or committee work as agreed
  • Research and development of solutions to new or unknown issues, making recommendations
  • Attend meetings with providers, clients and prospects, if required
  • Consulting and negotiating with authorities including DWP, HMRC, The Pensions Regulator and the Information Commissioner as required
  • Read, research and understand documentation and legislation to resolve queries
  • Prepare PATHways or similar bulletins/ articles as required
  • Any other reasonable task as advised from time-to-time

About the person

  • We're looking for candidates with really strong working knowledge of pensions law - ideally you will have been in a similar role
  • If you have made progress with the PMI examinations that would be advantageous although experience in a similar role would be more preferable
  • The bulk of our pension administration business is around final salary / DB pensions so your expertise should reflect this
  • Excellent communication, listening and organisational skills
  • Be able to communicate complex technical matters at a level appropriate to the recipient, exercising tact and diplomacy, where necessary
  • As a minimum, you should have GCSE (or equivalent) maths and English grade 5 / C or higher
