The HR team are mainly based in Cheltenham and provide a full HR service to the Firm encompassing Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Reward and Employee Relations. The team works closely with the business and supporting committees to help drive the business forward with added value activity.  We are now inviting applications for an experienced Reward and Benefits Advisor to join our team.  This role can be based in either Cheltenham or Bristol.  Travel will be required between these two offices and also on occasion further afield to our other offices.

The Reward and Benefits Advisor reports to the Reward and Benefits Manager and works closely with the Senior Rewards and Benefits Advisor alongside other HR colleagues.

 About the role

The main thrust of this role is to support the Reward and Benefits programme under compensation, benefits and projects tasks. Duties are likely to include:


  • Support the job matching process for individual roles
  • Use salary surveys to determine benchmarking for individual roles
  • Main contributor to completing salary and benefits surveys
  • Support the annual salary review process through spreadsheet preparation, checking and distribution
  • Support the annual bonus review
  • Manage annual salary review updates in the HR database and preparation of employee letters to confirm awards
  • Act as main point of contact for HR team when calculating any pay and benefits queries or solving incorrect payments/deductions Ensure database is updated to reflect changes to employee’s data
  • Communicating with employees as appropriate to inform them of pay/benefit changes


  • Support the company’s flexible benefit programme, Me2 Choices, and be a first point of call for employee queries
  • Run and check reports from HR system to flex benefits system on a monthly basis and ensure election windows are operated correctly each month
  • Process other benefits outside of flexible benefits and update employee records and HR database appropriately
  • Manage process for monthly benefit data for payroll. Check payroll data to ensure correctly processed
  • Support the annual renewal of benefits through providing HR data to insurers, brokers etc
  • Be the first point of contact for data queries from our flexible benefits platform team and providers
  • Process benefit invoices and track spend centrally
  • Administer and manage pension contribution payments, co-ordinate membership queries and process new joiners/leavers to the scheme within Auto-Enrolment requirements. Support the accounts department with pension related activities and payment contribution data and reconcile with the database and previous months’ payments. Liaise with third party provider when required.Liaise with the RBM and SR&BA on the delivery of policy updates relating to benefit changes
  • Ensure Partner benefits are renewed on a timely basis and insurer’s provided with data
  • Support the yearly reporting (e.g. P11D, P60s) process


  • Work closely with both the payroll function and the operations team to ensure data for any payroll affecting transactions (e.g. starters, leavers, maternity, changes to pay, unpaid leave, salary review, bonus etc.) and is ready for to be submitted to the Outsource Payroll provider by the payroll function by cut off dates.
  • Regularly monitor employee questions raised through the HR helpdesk system (Tick-IT)
  • Work with in-house software developers to continuously improve database reporting capabilities and streamline reward processes
  • Support, implement and maintain information security procedures and activities in accordance to Barnett Waddingham’s Information Security Policy

 Project Work

 Where possible, there will an opportunity to get involved with projects, which may include:

  • Review of payroll provision
  • Pension changes to improve process efficient and legislation changes
  • Assist with the design and ongoing maintenance of the job levels
  • Assist on pay and benefits projects as defined

About the person

  • Proven reward and benefits experience and delivery is essential
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency and accuracy in both numerical and analytical skills and is able to deal with complex queries relating to pay and benefits.
  • High level of IT literacy is necessary for the role, particularly advanced Excel
  • Previous experience of HR and Payroll systems
  • Previous exposure to working within a professional services organisation would be an advantage but is not essential
  • Experience of working with different stakeholders
  • Given the nature of the role, strong attention to detail is essential along with communication skills; both verbal and written
