Pensions Consultant – Pensions Consultant or Governance Specialist

Do you have a background in the pensions industry and are you keen to help those who run pension schemes operate effectively?  Or do you want to focus on offering your clients support in specialist governance areas, e.g. risk management, diversity, equity and inclusion, or cyber governance?  Are you looking for a job where every day is different, working with a wide range of clients, team members and Aon colleagues?  Then we may have the role for you!

Aon is recruiting for Pensions Consultants to join the Trustee Retirement Consulting Team focussing on the governance of DB pension schemes. This is a key growth area in the UK for Aon’s Wealth Solutions business and this is an exciting opportunity to play your part in that.

You can choose to be based in any the following UK offices (Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Farnborough, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester, St. Albans), with a mix of home and office working.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

You will be collaborating with colleagues across a variety of clients, with client interaction and client lead roles strongly encouraged and supported. You will be expected to own projects on your clients and drive these forward, from business as usual activity to more specialist areas, for example, operational reviews of Trustee Boards, strategic business planning, risk management, cyber security, benefit reviews or Pensions Dashboards. Our clients are mainly Trustees and Sponsors of private trust-based pension arrangements.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Build strong relationships with each client, and other stakeholders alongside ongoing client teams within Aon;
  • Be part of the team that delivers Client Management, Pensions Management, Secretariat or specialist Governance services to clients;
  • Have the opportunity to get involved in Aon’s Governance specialist team to develop our services and drive revenue within the team;
  • Manage a number of projects either on your clients or as part of a wider project consultancy team;
  • Working closely with our administration, project consultancy and other specialist teams such as Member options and risk settlement in a truly Aon United way

How this opportunity is different

Aon’s Governance team is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of strategic consultants, governance experts and client management apprentices, providing the full spectrum of consulting advice and support to Trustee Boards. Whilst you are likely to be supporting a portfolio of clients to ensure Trustees Boards are running pension schemes effectively, you will also have the opportunity to focus on one of our many specialist areas.

 One of our strengths is that we have a diverse team, so you don't need to be interested in all areas of our work– what we're looking for is someone who is enthusiastic, willing to learn and able to work as part of a dynamic team in this growth area of the business. This role really does give you the opportunity to influence your own future career.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Good understanding of defined benefit or defined contribution pensions or a willingness to learn
  • Good communication and numeracy skills
  • Ability to work in a team and individually, with a flexible, can-do attitude
  • Willing to share ideas and suggestions for improvements, either from a BAU perspective or in relation to proposition development
  • Good project oversight, time management and organisation skills
  • You may be part or fully qualified in a relevant Professional qualification (e.g. APMI, PRINCE2 etc.) although this is not a requirement

.

How we support our colleagues

In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we encourage a diverse workforce. Plus, our agile, inclusive environment allows you to manage your wellbeing and work/life balance, ensuring you can be your best self at Aon. Furthermore, all colleagues enjoy two “Global Wellbeing Days” each year, encouraging you to take time to focus on yourself.  We offer a variety of working style solutions, but we also recognise that flexibility goes beyond just the place of work... and we are all for it. We call this Smart Working!

Our continuous learning culture inspires and equips you to learn, share and grow, helping you achieve your fullest potential. As a result, at Aon, you are more connected, more relevant, and more valued.
